How to Use VoIP Anonymously
VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol is a technology used for communications via the Internet. Popular online services such as Skype or Google Talk, as well as a number of telecommunication services such as Verizon and Sprint, use VoIP for chats. Unlike regular phone services, VoIP uses the Internet to place calls and is a cost-effective solution for overseas calling. While most VoIP calls can be traced to the service provider and your phone number, there are several ways that you can use VoIP technology to place calls anonymously.
Instructions
-
Route Calls Through a Virtual Private Network
-
1
Subscribe to a Virtual Private Network (VPN) service. A VPN secures your network and makes your IP address anonymous. There are several vendors that offer this service with varying features such as Strong VPN and VPN Gates.
-
2
Install the software or apply the settings set up by your VPN service provider.
-
-
3
Place a call to your cell phone using your VoIP phone to see if your calls are set as anonymous.
Use a Third-Party Call Handling Service
-
4
Go to the website of a third-party call handling service such as Jaxtr.

Enter your phone number and the mobile phone number of the friend you wish to talk to using the site's online form. Your friend will receive a text message to call you using a local number generated by the service provider.

Tips & Warnings
Skype and Google calls will still be traced to Google or Skype. However, the calls will still be anonymous as you are using your PC for the VoIP call instead of your phone.
