Kwikset’s Smart Key locking systems allow you to rekey your lock quickly and easily without calling a locksmith. This can be particularly handy if you make a habit of giving out your keys to guests, contractors or friends. The entire process only takes a couple of minutes and the only tool required is the tool that came with your Smart Key lock.
Things You'll Need
- Original key
- Smart key tool
- New key
Open the door. Insert the lock’s current key into the lock. Turn the key 90 degrees clockwise.
Insert the SmartKey tool into the SmartKey tool hole. The tool must be inserted as far as it can go. Remove the tool.
Remove the original key carefully without turning it.
Insert the new key all the way into the key slot without turning it.
Rotate the key 90 degrees counter-clockwise.
Rotate the key 90 degrees clockwise and attempt to remove the key. If the key does not remove, your lock is rekeyed. If the key does remove, reinsert the key and restart from step two.
