How to Connect Multiple Satellite Receivers

A multi-switch lets you view different programs on multiple receivers with one dish.

Hooking up multiple satellite receivers to an extraterrestrial TV system lets you watch programs on different TV sets throughout the house. With a connected or built-in digital video recorder on the satellite receiver, you can also record different programs to suit the viewing preferences of everyone in the family. A device known as a multi-switch connects to the main coaxial cables from the satellite dish. Jacks on the other side of the multi-switch connect to the different receivers with separate lengths of coaxial cable to distribute the signals.

Things You'll Need

• Multi-switch
• Coaxial cables with metal ferrules on the ends
• TV sets
• AV cables

Instructions

1. Attach the coaxial cables from the satellite dish to the input jacks on one side of the multi-switch, turning the metal ferrule on the end of each cable clockwise to lock it to a jack.

2. Connect a coaxial cable to an output jack on the other side of the multi-switch for each receiver you wish to connect. Hand tighten the cable by turning the metal ferrule on the end.

3. Hook up the other end of each coaxial cable to the threaded input jack on the rear panel of each receiver.

4. Connect the three colored plugs on each end of an AV cable to the matching output jacks on the receiver and input jacks on a TV.
