How to Access AOL Chat Without a Credit Card

New and existing AIM users can log into AIM Chat for free.

In order to access America Online Chat, you need an AOL account and an AIM or AOL Instant Messenger screen name. An AIM screen name and account is completely free and doesn't require you to enter any personal financial information. You only need a creative screen name, a password and a few minutes to set up AIM.

Instructions

New AIM Users

1. Open your web browser and navigate to the AOL AIM Chat website.

2. Click "Get a Screen Name" at the top-right corner of the window.

3. Select "Create an Account" and click "Continue."

4. Enter your personal information as indicated by the sign-up form. Items marked with an asterisk are required.

5. Click "Submit" to complete the application.

6. Return to the AOL Chat website.

7. Click "Chat Now" to start chatting, "See All Chats" to browse the site for specific chat rooms or "Create Your Own Chat" to start one of your own.

8. Click the "Sign in to join this chat" option in any chat room and enter your AIM log-in information to get started.

Existing AIM Users

1. Open your web browser and navigate to the AOL AIM Chat website.

2. Click "Sign In" at the top-right corner of the window.

3. Enter your AIM screen name or email address and password.

4. Click "Sign In" to begin chatting.
