How to Reset the Change Oil Notification on a 2000 Ford Windstar

Save

The 2000 Ford Windstar uses a mileage based system to keep track of the approximate service interval. Once every 5,000 or six months, your speedometer message center will show "Oil Change Required." This happens when the vehicle's oil life percentage reaches five percent or less. Change the oil yourself, or have the oil changed at a service station, and then reset the change oil notification to make the message turn off. The key must be turned on for the procedure to work.

  • Push "Setup" on the Windstar's dash control pad. The screen next to the speedometer will read "Press Reset for Sys Check."

  • Press "Reset" on the control pad. The display will now read "Oil Life % Hold Reset New."

  • Hold "Reset" for two seconds. The message now changes to "New Oil Hold Reset."

  • Hold "Reset" for another two seconds. You'll hear the system chime. The oil life will reset to "100 Percent."
