How to Create Contacts Subfolders in Windows Mobile 6

How to Create Contacts Subfolders in Windows Mobile 6 thumbnail
Your computer likely supports subfolders for contacts, but your pocket PC may not.

Windows Mobile doesn't let you separate contacts into subfolders. Outlook Express, which stores the same contacts, does. But syncing your contacts between the two won't transfer the subfolders you created in Outlook. To manage that, you need a separate plug-in provided by Microsoft. Complicating the process further, new versions of Outlook don't support this plug-in, as of October 2010. But if you edit your computer to force compatibility, you'll be able to sync subfolders from Outlook to Windows Mobile.

Instructions

    • 1

Download a registry fix that allows you to install Pocket Contact Synchronizer 1.2. Save the fix as "Edit.reg," including the quotes in the file name. Run the file.

    • 2

Download and install Microsoft's Outlook 2002 Add-in: Pocket Contact Synchronizer 1.2.

    • 3

Open Outlook Express. Switch to the "Home" ribbon.

    • 4

Click "Contacts" from the left pane. Right-click "Contacts" under "My Contacts." Select "New Folder."

    • 5

Name the new folder. Drag contacts into it.

    • 6

      Right-click the folder. Select "Properties."

    • 7

Switch to the "Outlook PCS" tab. Check the box next to "Include this folder in Outlook Pocket Contact Synchronization." Click "OK."

    • 8

Switch to the "Add-ins" ribbon. Click "Sync."
