Organizing your monthly bills with a calendar will help you keep track of due dates.

Paying monthly bills is not an activity that many people enjoy. For those with a variety of monthly bills, like recurring car payments, mortgage payments and credit card bills, keeping track and paying on time can be difficult. However, with some organization, paying monthly bills can be much less burdensome.

Instructions

    • 1

Obtain a paper or electronic calendar that you will use exclusively for the purpose of organizing and monitoring your monthly bills. Purchase a wall calendar or day planner, or use calendar software for your computer. Mark the dates that you receive your paycheck on the calendar. This will provide the basis from which you will begin paying bills, by allowing you to allocate certain amounts from each check or pay period to your monthly bills.

    • 2

Mark the date that each monthly bill is due on the calendar. Write both the name of the bill, and the amount due, on the corresponding date. For recurring bills, such as car payments that are due on the same day each month, make a note of the bill on your calendar in advance for the current and upcoming months. For bills with variable due dates, such as utility bills and credit card bills, write the due date and payment amount on the calendar as the bills are received in the mail.

    • 3

Mark the date that you will make each payment on your calendar. This date may vary from the due date of the bill, depending on how you make your payments. If you make your payments with a check through the mail, note that you will send it five to seven days in advance of the due date, to ensure that the company receives it on time. If you make payments electronically, over the internet or by using the telephone, you may make your payment on the date your payment is due.

Double-check your bank account to ensure that you have enough funds to cover the payment, prior to mailing your check or making an electronic payment.
