Greenville County South Carolina defines a car as "junk" or abandoned if it is not in working order, does not have legal registration or does not have the equipment to operate (dismantled). If a car meets any one of these criteria, it must be kept in a completely enclosed building.

Salvage yards must have a continuous visual screen at least 8-feet high. The screen can be fence or evergreen plant material, according to the Greenville County Zoning Ordinance, Section 6:2, paragraph 20.

The Code Enforcement Division has a Neighborhood Awareness Program. Under this program, code enforcement officers inspect residential areas for violations. Before they issue any citations, code enforcement officers contact residents and give them the opportunity to register the vehicle or store it properly.
