You can create colorful, professional stationery quickly and easily using Adobe PageMaker templates.

Adobe PageMaker is a very accommodating desktop publishing program and allows you to create interesting publications of almost any type. There are many available styles and templates in PageMaker with colorful, professional designs that you can alter to suit your taste. You can create greeting cards, brochures, and stationery of various image and font sizes. Using PageMaker templates is easy and can provide you with a faster way to produce a professional design.

      Launch Adobe PageMaker. Open the "Templates" window. Select a specific template style by clicking the "Category" drop-down menu. Select the category that closely fits your intended design and choose from one of the layout types shown by double-clicking the thumbnail. For example, you can choose "Flyers," "Label Sets" or "Menus." The PANOSE Font Matching Results dialog may appear, and if it does, click "OK." Many times the font supplied with the template may not be on your system so it will attempt to approximate the closest font possible from your system font library. The template document appears.

      Bring your artwork into the document by clicking "File" from the main menu, then select "Place." The "Place" dialog window prompts you to select an image from a file in your directories. Select an image or type the file name in the "File name" text entry field. Select "Importable Files" from the "Files of type" drop-down text entry field. The "Kind" field should depict the type of file you chose, such as "JPEG Image," "Gif" or "Adobe Photoshop Image." You can make this image a link by clicking the "place URL" after completing the "Place" and "Options" subentries. Choose "As independent graphic" if the image is new to the document or choose "Replacing frame's content" if you are changing the existing image. Click the "Open" button. The image is now in your document. Right-click on the image and choose "Text wrap..." to make the text flow around the image. Choose the second wrap option in "Wrap option" and the third option in "Text flow." Click "OK."

      Add text to your document by clicking the "Type" tool in the "Tools" sub menu. If the tools sub menu is not available, click "Window," then "Show Tools" from the main menu. With the "Type" tool selected, position your cursor where you would like the text to be and drag a square to create a text box. You can shorten or elongate it later. Type your text here or copy it in from another source by highlighting the text and using the copy command "Ctrl and C." Paste it into the place in your PageMaker document you selected by typing "Ctrl and V." Change the width of your column by clicking any corner of the document with your mouse while holding the mouse key down and dragging it in any direction.

      Save the template as a PageMaker file in your chosen directory.

Tips & Warnings

  • You can also bring images, pictures and graphs into your document by dragging it from another source or copying and pasting it into the PageMaker document. Another way is by choosing "Edit," then "Paste Special" from the main menu after you have copied it from the source. When the "Paste Special" dialog window appears, select "Paste" and choose "Bitmap from the "As" subentry field, then click "OK." Resize the image by holding down the "Shift" key and dragging a corner of the image with your mouse until you have acquired the desired size.
