How to Make a Kingdom Heart Key Symbol
A Disney executive and a Final Fantasy producer entered an elevator in Japan. What exited was the collision of two worlds, and a story that has spanned five games. Mixing characters from the universes of Final Fantasy and the Disney library, Kingdom Hearts has become one of the most loved games Square Enix has put out. The first Kingdom Hearts introduced us to Sora, the hero of the first game, and his weapon, the Key Blade. This distinctive key weapon is a simple and weapon to create using a few simple graphics programs.

Key Design in Illustrator

Open up Illustrator. Go to "File" and "New." Select "Print" from the "New Document Profile" drop-down menu, and select "Letter" from the "Size" drop-down menu. Press "OK."

Draw out a thin rectangle using the rounded rectangle tool from the tool bar. Make the width 5.45 and the height 0.19. Double-click on the "Fill" swatch color at the bottom of the tool bar and pick a gray color.

Select the rectangle tool, and draw a rectangle starting from left end of the rounded rectangle. Make the width 0.75 inches and the height 0.23 inches. Make the fill color an aqua green.

Draw a rectangle with a width of 1.36 inches and height 1.12 inches. Select the eyedropper tool and click on the long rounded rectangle.

Select the pen tool and draw a three-point crown that goes from the bottom of the square to middle of the square. The middle point should be slightly longer.

Go to "Window" and "Pathfinder." Select the crown and square with the selection tool. Click on the "Subtract from Shape Area." Click on the ellipse tool. Create two small ellipses, each with width 0.27 inches and height 0.31 inch. Drag an ellipse to one of the points between the first top point and the middle top point. Repeat this step for the other valley point. Drag the ellipses down to cover the points.

Create a rectangle with the width 0.40 inches and the height 0.31 inches. Place this at the left end of the aqua color square. Make the fill color yellow.

Create another rectangle with width 1.13 inches and height 0.23 inch. Place this at the left end of the small yellow square you just drew. Change the fill color to brown.

Draw a rounded rectangle width 0.51 inch and height 0.29 inch. Draw a rectangle with the width 0.31 inch and height 0.29 inch. Combine these two shapes. The flat rectangle shape should be connecting to the brown rectangle shape.

Create a large rounded rectangle that covers the brown handle and reaches from the yellow rectangle to the rounded rectangle at the far left of the key blade. Pick the eyedropper tool and select the yellow of the rectangles. Create another rounded rectangle almost the size of the last one. Select these two rounded rectangles and click "Subtract from Shape Area" from the "Pathfinder" window.

Go to "File" and "Save." Name this "Key Blade" and press "OK."
Continuing in Photoshop

Open Photoshop while still having Illustrator open. Go to "File" and "New." Select "U.S. Paper" from the "Preset" drop-down menu.

Click back onto the Illustrator window. Use the selection tool to select the whole Key Blade. Drag this onto the Photoshop window to create a smart object.

Click the check mark icon at the top of the Photoshop window. Close Illustrator.

Go to "Layer," "Layer Style" and "Blending Mode." Click on "Drop Shadow." Change opacity to 52 percent, the distance to 258, the spread to 1, and the size to 70.

Click on "Inner Glow." Select "Screen" from the "Blend Mode" drop-down menu. Make opacity 75 percent, change noise to 0, change the choke to 0, and change the size to 43. Click on "Bevel and Emboss." Select the "Inner Bevel" within the "Style" drop-down menu. Change the depth to 100 percent, change the direction to up and size to 57. Change the soften to 2.
