How to Program the Key on a Ford Ranger

Ignition keys are programmed directly to the engine starter.

The Ford Ranger is among the large range of Ford vehicles that can be synced with the ignition key technology. These keys, also known as transponder keys or chip keys, are synced to your engine, and once programmed, they are the only way to start your car. You can program your ignition key to the engine in just seconds as long as you have two keys already programmed by the dealership.

Instructions

1. Enter your car with your two programmed keys and your blank key, and insert one programmed key into the ignition.

2. Turn the key to the "On" position, and then back "Off," and remove it from the ignition.

3. Insert the second key within 5 seconds, turn it "On" and then "Off," and then remove this key.

4. Insert your new and unprogrammed key within 10 seconds, and turn it to the "On" position.

5. Hold it in the "On" position for 1 second, and turn it back "Off." Wait for the security light to flash to indicate successful programming, and remove the key from the ignition.
