How to Keep Macadamia Nuts Fresh

Macadamia nuts are a popular Hawaiian souvenir.

The macadamia nut, a Hawaiian export and native of Australia, is a buttery delicious round-shaped nut. A difficult nut to free from its shell, the macadamia nut is high in fat and calories. One ounce has approximately 200 calories, 2 grams of protein and is low in carbohydrates. Macadamia nuts are eaten as a snack food, added to cookies and baked goods and used to make candy.   Place the nuts in an airtight, non-transparent container.

  Store the container in a cool, dry location, ideally below 59 degrees Fahrenheit.

  Refrigerate or freeze the nuts to lengthen their shelf life.
