How to Fix a JVC VHS DVR

How to Fix a JVC VHS DVR thumbnail
It is possible to fix your JVC hardware with a VHS cleaning tape.

A JVC VHS DVR is an all-in-one playing device that plays DVDs, blu-ray discs or VHS tapes. The hardware also comes with a built in DVR, which allows you the ability to record programming whenever you choose. If the equipment is not functioning correctly, such as the DVR not recording or the DVD player skipping, there are a few troubleshooting steps to follow to correct the issues.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the cable connections running from the JVC hardware into a television or other device. Make sure the cables are completely inserted into the equipment, otherwise the audio/video signal may become lost, causing the signals to drop.

    • 2

Check the setting you have the JVC equipment set up to (such as "VCR" or "DVD"). If you want to want to watch a DVD or blu-ray it must be set on the DVD setting.

    • 3

Insert a cleaning tape into the the VCR, then press "Play" and let it run for a few minutes. If you are experiencing static across your video picture on a VHS tape, it means the tape heads are dirty. The cleaning tape takes care of this.

    • 4

Look on the bottom side of the DVD you are playing. This disc needs to be clean, otherwise it is going to skip during playback. Wipe the DVD off with a damp cloth to remove the dust and other gunk from the disc.

    • 5

Insert the cleaning DVD into the DVD drive of the JVC equipment. Play the cleaning DVD for a few minutes as the bristles on the bottom of the cleaning disc remove dust from the DVD drive's lens.

    • 6

Delete movie files you no longer need to view. If the built-in hard drive is full, you are unable to save programming to the DVR.
