It is possible to watch satellite programming without paying a monthly service fee.

The 501 satellite dish is hardware typically used by Dish Network. However, the dish may be used by any satellite receiver, including free-to-air (FTA) receivers. Hooking up the 501 dish to your FTA satellite receiver is exactly the same as using any other receiver and should take just a few minutes. Once connected you are able to view any unscrambled stations obtained by the dish.

Tips & Warnings

  • Using this equipment is completely legal, even if it is not with Dish Network. Many FTA satellite providers actually sell Dish Network satellite equipment for FTA use. Because you are purchasing the equipment and not stealing any programming (the content is freely broadcast, just like local television stations) there are no legal issues with using the hardware to receive FTA satellite stations.
