How to Clean a Dyson Sweeper
Dyson vacuum cleaners are unique because they use a technology called cyclonic suction to remove dust and dirt from carpeting and other surfaces. If your Dyson vacuum cleaner becomes blocked or too dirty, the machine may overheat. A fail-safe built into the vacuum cleaner will shut the vacuum off if it becomes too hot to operate safely. If your Dyson vacuum turns itself off, allow the machine to cool before you attempt to clean it. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Unplug your Dyson vacuum cleaner before beginning any maintenance.
-
2
Remove the cyclone and collection bin from the vacuum cleaner.
-
-
3
Remove the filter unit and take the blue filter out of the yellow case. Do not wash the filter in your dishwasher or washing machine. Keep your filter and case out of the microwave or clothes dryer as well.
-
4
Rinse the filter and its case in cold water until the water runs clear. Do not use any soap or detergent to clean the filter or case.
-
5
Set the filter and case on a clean, dry towel and allow them to air dry for at least 12 hours. Do not replace the filter unit until both the filter and case are completely dry.
-
6
Empty the dust collection bin.
-
7
Press the release latch at the top of the collection bin to separate the bin from the cyclone.
-
8
Use a soft cloth or a soft-bristled brush to remove dust and dirt from the shroud at the bottom of the cyclone. A brush will help to remove dirt from crevices and holes in the cyclone. If you have dust allergies, put a plastic bag around the bottom of the cyclone and brush the dust into the bag.
-
9
Rinse the dust collection bin with cold water. Use a soft cloth to remove dirt from the sides. Do not use any soaps or detergents on the clear bin. Make sure the bin is completely dry before continuing.
-
10
Reattach the cyclone to the clear collection bin. Snap them firmly together. Do not submerge the cyclone or use water to clean it, as this can damage the cyclone.
-
11
Check all of your vacuum cleaner's tools and hoses for anything that might be blocking them. Also check the wand for blockages.

Tips & Warnings
Check your filter regularly. Wash it at least every six months.
Empty the dirt collection bin each time you use your Dyson vacuum cleaner. If the collection bin fills to the "MAX" line before you have finished vacuuming, empty it to ensure the vacuum continues to operate properly.
