Wash the hair using a shampoo and conditioner, being careful to rinse thoroughly. Extra products left in the hair will weigh it down and make it harder to style. Towel dry the hair to remove excess water. Hair should be damp, but not dripping with water. Spray hair with a styling spray from roots to tips and comb it through. For fuller hair, use a volumizing styling product.

Take a section of hair about the same size as your roller from the front hairline. Larger rollers create bigger curls or waves, while smaller rollers will produce tighter corkscrew curls. Comb the section of hair straight up in the direction of the ceiling, getting rid of any tangles. Starting at the tips, wind the hair tightly around the roller down to the scalp. Self-gripping rollers will sit on the roots of the hair on their own, but brush rollers will need to be pinned into place.

Separate the rest of the hair into similar sized sections, and wrap in all the rollers around the whole head. If the hair starts to dry out while inserting the rest of the rollers, spray it with more styling spray. When all of the hair has been placed into rollers, leave it to dry naturally. This may take several hours. If you're short on time, carefully dry with a hair dryer, but give the hair a chance to cool before removing the rollers. Unwind the rollers when the hair is dry, and gently brush through the hair with your fingers. For a wavy look, brush through the hair with a hairbrush.
