How to Speed Up Aggregate Functions in FileMaker Pro 11
An aggregate function is a mathematical formula that takes in set of values and outputs a result based on the type of operation specified. In the Filemaker Pro 11 program, you can use calculation fields to implement aggregate functions, but you may find that running the function slows down the performance of your entire database. By turning on the indexing feature for all fields involved in the aggregate function, you can speed up the database's computations.
Instructions
-
-
1
Open the Filemaker Pro 11 database in which you want to speed up the computation of aggregate functions.
-
2
Go to "File" in top menu bar, expand the "Manage" submenu and choose "Database."
-
-
3
Go to the "Fields" tab at the top of the window to view a list of the fields defined in your database.
-
4
Double-click the name of the one of the fields that is involved in your aggregate function.
-
5
Go to the "Storage" tab at the top of the pop-up window.
-
6
Select the "All" radio button in the "Indexing" section of the window.
-
7
Press the "OK" button to save the settings. With indexing turned on, Filemaker will now record all changes to the field and speed up aggregate functions that are related to it.
-
8
Repeat steps 4-7 for all other fields that are related to your aggregate functions.
