Reporting KPI (key performance indicators) requires software assistance for clear information presentation. Key performance indicators inform managers how the business is operating. A strategic method for KPI visualization is the use of dashboard software. According to the Enterprise Dashboard blog,"Anything that consolidates information in a visual, concise fashion counts as a dashboard." The software works with the desktop programs that most companies already have, enhancing the appearance of data for easier review.

Use a dashboard option for evaluation of your company's performance. Dashboard reporting can be used with Excel, Access, Oracle and other applications. Dashboards are web-based.

Select the metrics to be measured. Safety, quality and productivity are the metrics typically evaluated by managers. Look at the number of risks, errors and down-time, as tracked in Excel spreadsheets.

Gather each of the metric figures into one Excel spreadsheet by operating multiple reports in different systems. Aggregate all of them into an Excel workbook. Point Dashboard Designer to this spreadsheet and build a dashboard to be shared among members of the company.

Implement the strategic use of colors to denote certain indicators. Assign colors to have meanings-- green can be positive and red negative growth. Keep this consistent throughout to report KPI successfully.
