How to Reduce Number of Programs at Start Up

Startup programs are applications that start up automatically when you boot your computer. Some of them are essential, while some are not. You can reduce your boot time significantly by reducing the number of programs at startup. If you have too many unwanted or unimportant programs lined up during startup, you will face a major lag in the booting process. Note that you may need administrative rights on your computer to perform this task.

Instructions

    • 1

Click the "Start" menu and select "Run..." For Windows 7, manually type "run" without the quotes in the search bar at the bottom of the "Start" menu and hit "Enter" key.

    • 2

Type without the quotes "msconfig" in the "Run" box and press "Enter." This will launch "System Configuration."

    • 3

      Click the "Startup" tab.

    • 4

Scroll down the list and identify programs that you do not want to include in the startup list. Single-click to remove check marks next to these programs.

    • 5

Click "OK." Select "Restart" when prompted.
