How to Reinstall KDE in SuSE

Save

SuSE is a free and open-source Linux distribution developed by Novell. SuSE includes several desktop environments, one of which is the KDE desktop environment. Like other software on Linux-based computers, KDE is installed from a collection of packages. If KDE files on your computer have been modified, deleted or corrupted, reinstall the KDE packages to restore them to their original state. SuSE's YaST package manager can't reinstall packages directly, but you can uninstall and reinstall the KDE packages manually.

  • Open SuSE's YaST tool by clicking the "Computer" menu and clicking "YaST."

  • Type your root password and press "Enter."

  • Click "Software Management" in the YaST window.

  • Click the drop-down box under the software groups list at the left side of the window. Click "Patterns."

  • Scroll down in the left sidebar until you see "KDE3 Base System."

  • Press and hold the "Ctrl" key on the keyboard and click "KDE3 Base System," "KDE3 Desktop Environment," "KDE4 Base System" and "KDE4 Desktop Environment."

  • Click "Remove All."

  • Uninstall all KDE software packages by clicking "Apply."

  • Click "Yes" in the "Install or Remove More Packages" window.

  • Click the drop-down box under the software groups list. Click "Patterns."

  • Scroll down in the left sidebar until you see "KDE3 Base System."

  • Press and hold the "Ctrl" key on the keyboard. Click "KDE3 Base System," "KDE3 Desktop Environment," "KDE4 Base System" and "KDE4 Desktop Environment." If you only want KDE4 installed, skip clicking the KDE3 groups.

  • Reinstall the KDE packages by clicking "Apply."
