How to Read a Battery Gauge

Know when your battery is in the low-power stage.

You don't want a battery to die on you while you're using a device, whether it's a phone or laptop or any electronic gadget. Some devices do not have battery gauges, but on devices that do feature one, you can prevent a power failure.

Instructions

1. View the battery gauge and take note of the color displayed. Typically, a power bar will show green, yellow or red.

2. Read the battery power. If the gauge displays green or if there is an arrow pointing on the green side of the bar, that means the battery has good power. If it is in the yellow area, or in the middle of the bar, that means the battery has half its power. If the gauge is in the red, the battery is low on power. On some gauges, you will receive a message or indicator when the power is dangerously low.

3. Charge or change the battery if the gauge indicates low power. Charging the battery may be as simple as plugging the device in to an electrical outlet. For some devices, the battery or batteries will have to be changed to function properly again.
