How to Print Onto DVDs Using Inkjets
Printing onto a DVD can be a way of personalizing a gift for a relative or a loved one. There are two major ways to print onto a DVD or a CD, depending on budget and resources. An inkjet printer can print onto a DVD or CD, and then coat it, giving an inkjet-quality finish to a DVD. A thermal CD printer uses similar technology, although the print quality does not match that of the inkjet.

1
Burn the CD or DVD you wish first, before printing. Burning after printing can damage the printing on the surface due to the rapid spinning of the disc. If the ink is not completely dry, this can also damage your CD drive.
-
2
Use inkjet printable DVDs or CDs. Although these are not necessary, the finish given from one of these is of a much better quality than non-inkjet compatible DVDs or CDs, which may be damaged in the printing process.

Use the software that came with your DVD printer to ensure that the image fits completely within the printable surface. If the ink is printed on the plastic hub at the center of the DVD, it will not dry, and must be removed with a cloth.

Click "Print" when you are happy with your design. When the printing has finished, leave to dry for about five minutes before touching to ensure that you do not smudge the finish.
