As with any other type of countertop, foods and drinks can sometimes spill onto your granite countertop and require a clean-up. To pull the stain out of the granite properly, you must use mild ingredients that directly attack the stain itself while causing no damage to the granite. Luckily, there is an inexpensive ingredient that you probably already have in your pantry that will remove the stain from your granite counter. Does this Spark an idea?

  • Bowl
  • Baking soda or flour
  • Water
  • Spoon
  • Cleaning rags

      Blot up as much of the spill as possible with paper towels.

      Sprinkle baking soda or flour heavily over fresh liquid stains, using about a 1/4-inch-thick layer of the powder. Let it sit for five minutes and wipe it off with a paper towel.

      Mix a paste in a bowl for heavier, dried-on stains. Use enough baking soda or flour to cover the entire stain with a thick layer, and slowly stir in water until you form a paste about the thickness of peanut butter.

      Spread a thick layer over the stain, and let it sit until dry, which often takes a few hours or overnight, depending on the size of the stain.

      Wipe the dried paste off of your granite counter with a wet cloth, and repeat the paste application if any stain remains.
