How to Heat Your Pool Without a Heater

Save

Owning a pool can be expensive when the calculating the cost of chemicals and the electricity it takes to keep the pool clean. Heating a pool with an electric or gas heater only adds to these costs. There are other ways of heating a pool without adding another long-term expense. A solar pool cover can generate enough heat to warm the water to temperatures around 80 degrees. A solar pool cover, however, will not heat the pool on cloudy or rainy days.

Things You'll Need

  • Tape measure
  • Solar pool cover
  • Permanent marker
  • Scissors
  • Measure the surface of the pool. This is the area where the water sits. This determines the size of solar cover needed for your pool.

  • Buy a solar pool cover one size larger than the size needed for your pool.

  • Place the solar pool cover over the water's surface. Straighten the cover, smoothing out any wrinkles or folds.

  • Trace the pool walls on to the solar cover with a permanent marker.

  • Cut along the traced line with scissors.

  • Replace the solar cover over the pool water. Leave in place for several hours to heat the water.
