How to Record Sound With a Microphone on a Mac
Whether you're putting together an album, recording an audio drama or you just want to leave a message for someone on your Mac with a microphone, you use the same steps and the same program. While you can use an external microphone for this recording, there's also a built-in one that you can use just as easily and for free since it's already part of the computer.

Click the "Apple" menu and select the program "Simple Sound." A window pops up for the program.

Click "File" and select "New." This opens up a fresh track, shown as a blank recording that hasn't begun yet.

Push "Play and record your sound through your microphone of choice. The built-in mic should be up near the webcam. External microphones can be plugged in and used just as easily. Once you've finished recording, click the "Stop" button.
