A motorcycle that pulls to one side can be a serious hazard on the road.

If your Goldwing motorcycle tends to pull in one direction, this can become really tiring for the hand that has to compensate against this motion on long-distance rides. A motorcycle that pulls to one side can be difficult to ride because this drifting needs to be offset by shifting your weight or counter-steering. If the pulling is mild and only noticeable at certain times, it could be normal drift, caused by the natural slope of the road. If the pulling is severe enough that it affects the quality of your ride consistently, then it should be repaired immediately.

Instructions

    • 1

Ride your motorcycle and pay close attention to your riding form. If you grip the handlebars too firmly, you may be inadvertently causing the motorcycle to pull right by applying unequal amounts of pressure to the grips. Ensure that your body weight is balanced on the motorcycle, and you are not leaning unintentionally.

Balance the gear in your saddlebags. If you are traveling with numerous items in your saddlebags, the weight should be distributed evenly on both sides to avoid inadvertent pulling.

    • 3

Check the tires on your motorcycle. They should both be inflated to the recommended amount by the tire manufacturer. They should also be aligned properly; a rear tire that is out of alignment is most likely to cause drifting.

Inspect the drive belt. Ensure that the belt is in good condition with no debris, cracks or missing teeth. Check the belt tension and adjust it as needed, following the guidelines in your owner's manual.
