How to Find Business Licenses in North Carolina

The state of North Carolina issues business licenses and permits through the North Carolina Department of Commerce. In addition, some businesses that require professional licensing--medical professionals, financial advisers and trade professionals--are issued licenses through the North Carolina Board of Examiners.

Instructions

1. Point your Internet browser to NCCommerce.com. Click on the "Business Services" tab located in the upper left portion of the menu bar.

2. On the "Business Services" page, click on "Start Your Business" found on the left side of your monitor under "In this section...".

3. Click on "Business Licenses & Permits" in the drop-down menu.

4. Find "Go to Business Licenses and Permits Keyword Search" on the next page, in the center of the page under "The Directory of North Carolina State Business Licenses and Permits."

5. Type in your search query by business name, owner name or license number.

6. Navigate to NCLicensing.org to find more licenses and click the "License Search" tab in the vertical menu bar on the left side of the website. Conduct a search by license type, business name or owner's name.
