RCN or Residential Communications Network is a communications company that provides cable, Internet and phone service to several cities across the east coast including New York City, Boston and Philadelphia. If you have RCN service, you can bundle the three services together to get everything you need in one package including extra benefits. One of these extras is a voicemail service that will allow your friends, family and coworkers to leave a message for you to check anywhere at any time. The setup instructions for your RCN voicemail service will help you record a greeting and set up a passcode to access the account.

Things You'll Need

  • RCN phone service
  • Pick up your phone and dial the local voicemail access number for your area. If you are unsure what that number is, there is a list on RCN's voicemail support website.

  • Enter in the last four digits of your phone number when prompted for a passcode. You will change this number to whatever you want in the next step.

  • Press the digit on your phone that corresponds to "U" to access the voicemail's "User Option" menus. Press the "P" button to move to the passcode menu. You will be prompted to enter in a new 4 to 10 digit passcode. Press the digits corresponding to your new code and make note of the new passcode. You will be sent back to the main menu.

  • Press "U" again to enter the options menu. Press "G" to change your greeting. When prompted, speak what you want callers to hear for your greeting into the headset. When finished press the "#" button. Press "R" to listen to your greeting and when you are satisfied, press "X" to save it. You will return to the main menu.

  • Press "U" to enter the options menu again. Press "N" to access the menu that will allow you to change the name associated with your voicemail. When prompted, speak your name clearly into the headset. Press the "#" button when finished. Just like you did with the greeting, press "R" to listen to your name and when you like what you hear press "X" to save your name. You will return to the main menu.
