How to Customize the FTP Folder View

FTP files are exchanged between hard drives.

Users make a connection for File Transfer Protocol (FTP) over the Internet to another host computer, similar to how the HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) delivers a Web page to the Internet browser. However, you might now be aware that you have more control over FTP files and folders than you do over Web pages. When you exchange FTP files, you are interacting with the hard drive on another computer, as if you were sitting right there. If you have Windows 7, you can change FTP folder viewing, similar to how you change the view of folders in the operating system windows.

Instructions

    • 1

Click "Start." Type "Windows Explorer" in the search box at the bottom of the "Start" menu. Press "Enter."

    • 2

Bring up the URL (address) for the FTP in Windows Explorer and log in. The folders from the FTP will appear in the window.

    • 3

Click the down arrow next to the "Views" button near the top of the window to show a drop-down menu. The button is usually on the right of the window, next to the "Help" button represented by a question mark.

    • 4

Select the preferred view from the drop-down menu. As an example, the "Details" view shows many details about the files in the FTP folder, such as the date and size.
