Bloggers often like to change the order of posts for a number of reasons.

If you have a blog, you may be interested in changing the order of the posts. Sometimes, the goal is to prevent a new post from showing on the homepage. Other times, you may be trying to gain more visibility for a post and bring it to the front page. Changing the order of posts is easy, and can be done quickly from the administration panel for your blog.

Instructions

  1. Sticky Post Method

    • 1

If your blog is powered by Wordpress, you can hold posts on the top of the front page by marking it as sticky. Click on "posts" on the navigation pane on the left side of the administration screen and locate the post you would like to have stick to the front page. You can find it by scrolling through the post list or using the search function.

    • 2

Click on "edit" or "quick edit" to bring up the post options. Locate the "make this post sticky" option and check the box to bring the post to the top of the front page. Be sure to click "update post" to save the post as sticky. When you want to remove the post, follow the same steps and uncheck the sticky option.

    • 3

When you want to remove the post from the front page, repeat steps one and two and uncheck the sticky option. This will place the post back in the original chronological order.

    Date Change Method

    • 4

If you want to put a specific post in a specific order off the front page, you can change the date of the post. This method works in both Blogger and Wordpress, along with other blog platforms. Locate the post you would like to re-order by locating the post list. Like with the sticky method, you will have to find the specific post either by scrolling through your posts or using your blog search function.

    • 5

Click the link to edit the post. Locate the post date field and enter the new date you would like your post to display. The post will be re-ordered to fit chronologically, based on the date and will reflect the new date, depending on your theme settings. You can move a post to the front or back of the blog with this method.

    • 6

If you decide you want to move the post back, repeat steps one and two and replace the edited date with the new desired date. This can be repeated as many times as you like.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you want to re-order the posts temporarily, the "sticky post" method is easiest to manipulate. If you want a permanent change, the date change method is best.

  • Be careful when editing your posts. It is possible to accidentally delete or move a post unintentionally if you are not careful.
