Repair the startup disk to get a ThinkPad working again.

A corrupted file on a startup disk causes a loop on an IBM ThinkPad's boot process. When you have a corrupted file on the startup disk, the laptop computer will not be able to boot properly. The computer performs the boot process over and over again without actually booting the computer's operating system. Fix this problem by using the Windows recovery options provided with the computer.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the Windows 7 installation disc into the computer's optical drive.

    • 2

Start the computer and wait for it to boot from the install disc.

    • 3

Click on the preferred language from the menu that appears. Click the "Next" button.

    • 4

Click the "Repair your computer" option from the menu.

    • 5

Click on the computer's operating system from the menu. Click the "Next" button.

    • 6

Click on the "Startup Repair" tool in the menu. Wait for the computer to repair the startup disk.

    • 7

Allow the computer to automatically restart.
