How to Hook Up an HD Tuner to a TV

How to Hook Up an HD Tuner to a TV thumbnail
Set up an HD tuner with your HDTV to watch high-definition programming.

An HD tuner receiver accepts high-definition audio and video signals from a cable or satellite source. This allows you to view HD programming on your television system, as long as you have an HDTV. With an HD tuner, you only need a single cable to send the audio and video information to your TV, so connecting the equipment is quick and straightforward and it is possible to find the required cable at any electronics store.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the HDMI cable into the HDMI connection port on your HD tuner. The connection is the same regardless of if the receiver is from a cable or satellite provider. The HDMI port is typically marked "HDMI" and is roughly 3/4-inch long and 1/4-inch tall. Unlike most other cables which are circular, the HDMI hookup is rectangular.

    • 2

Insert the opposite end of the HDMI cable into one of the labeled HDMI "In" ports on the back or side of your HDTV, depending on the model. Most high-definition televisions have multiple connection ports, and it does not matter which HDMI port you use.

    • 3

Power on both the HD tuner and the HDTV. Press the "Input" option on the TV (sometimes referred to as "Source") and select "HDMI." The programming from the HD tuner should load onto the screen.
