Egg beater pedals are for mountain bikes, but they are occasionally used on road bikes. They are minimalist in design to shed mud and dirt. Even though they look different, they have the same removal and installation methods as any other pedal. You can remove egg beaters in minutes using one wrench.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip the bike upside down and balance it on its handlebars and seat.

    • 2

Examine each pedal. Where the pedal axle enters the crank-arm you will see the letter "L" or the letter "R."

    • 3

Place the 15mm wrench over the letter "R." Holding the other pedal with one hand, turn the wrench in a counterclockwise direction to unscrew the pedal from the crank.

    • 4

Place the wrench over the letter "L." Hold the other crank with one hand while you turn the wrench clockwise to unscrew and remove the pedal.

Tips & Warnings

  • If you can't see the letters on the pedals remember that the left hand pedal always has reverse threads. Use the cyclist mantra for this rule. "Right is right, left is wrong."
