Empty plastic soft drink and water bottles can be recycled into an artistic bouquet of flowers for a cheerful table centerpiece or weatherproof garden decorations tucked into landscape beds. The plastic bottle flowers could also be glued to headbands or barrettes or attached to a safety pin for a hat, purse or jacket decoration. Fashioning the flowers could make a good craft project session for a teenage slumber party, providing an activity and a take-home gift for party attendees.
Things You'll Need
- Plastic soft drink or water bottle
- Acrylic craft paint
- Foam paintbrush
- Heat gun
- Wooden skewer
- Round, colored button
- Hot glue gun
Empty and clean the soft drink or water bottle.
Cut off the bottom 3 inches of the bottle with scissors.
Cut along the groove lines of the bottle bottom to separate the plastic into four petals.
Paint the petals with acrylic paint in the color of your choice, using a foam paintbrush. Sprinkle glitter on the wet paint. Let the paint dry for at least one hour.
Apply heat with a heat gun to each individual petal for one minute. When the plastic has melted to the desired petal shape, turn the heat off.
Poke the pointed end of a wooden skewer through the center of the plastic flower. Pull the skewer out and insert the flat end of the skewer through the hole. Attach the colored button to the skewer end with the hot glue gun.
