Disable WoW Automatic Updates

World of Warcraft, also known as WoW, is an online role-playing game that allows players to create a fantasy character, then go on quests to slay monsters and recover treasures. While playing the game, on occasion, available update patches will be downloaded automatically via Blizzard's Background Downloader. This software downloads updates slowly, so the process does not usually interfere with gameplay. If desired, it is possible to disable the feature and download update patches yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Blizzard Launcher on your computer.

    • 2

Click on the "Options" button. Click all the check boxes to deselect them.

    • 3

Click "OK" to confirm the change.

    • 4

Go to the Blizzard website to download the newest patches and updates for World of Warcraft. (See the Resource section for a link.)

Tips & Warnings

  • Check the Blizzard website for patches regularly. These updates fix errors that may cause problems while playing the game.
