How to Clear Access to an DSL Modem

DSL stands for digital subscriber line and is the technology that phone companies use to connect Internet service to their customers through standard phone lines. To use DSL, customers must sign up for the service and connect a phone line in their house to a DSL modem. Sometimes you can have trouble with the DSL modem, but it is a simple device, and troubleshooting to regain access is easy.

Make sure your computer network cable is plugged directly into the DSL modem. Enter the DSL modem's IP address into a Web browser. Enter the user name and password provided with the modem. Change any settings to match what your provider gave you, including your user name and password. This may include setting the modem to a direct connection or broadcast mode for a router.

Reset the DSL modem. There should be a pinhole that can be pressed with a pencil that will reset all of the DSL settings to their default. Press this while the DSL modem is on and hold it in for a few seconds.

Set the default settings on the router if the DSL modem is connected to a router. There will be a pinhole to reset the router the same as on the DSL modem.
