How to Erase a Dual-Layer DVD

If you have been using a dual-layer DVD-RW or DVD+RW, then you can erase the contents of the disc to reuse it at a later date. This is useful if you are running low on blank media and need to burn something new to DVD. Previously you may have needed specialist disc burning software to erase a DVD-RW, but now you can use the inbuilt Windows 7 tools to erase a DVD--or, likewise, CD-RW.

  • Insert the disc into your disc burner.

  • Click "Start."

  • Click "Computer."

  • Click the dual-layer DVD.

  • Click "Erase this disc." Follow the wizard onscreen to completely erase the disc.
