How to Install Cat5 Cable for U-verse


CAT-5 (category 5) data transfer cable goes by another name---"Ethernet" cable. This cable allows you to connect your computer to a device like a modem and get your machine onto the Internet. If you've had AT&T U-Verse Internet installed in your home and need to get your computer connected to the modem, you will need to properly install a CAT-5 cable connection between the two devices.

  • Find the CAT-5 Ethernet cable inputs on the back panels of both your computer and your AT&T U-Verse Internet modem. The modem will only have one Ethernet input on its case, but your computer may have a few. Any one of the available Ethernet inputs on your computer will do.

  • Plug your CAT-5 Ethernet cable into the input on your U-Verse modem.

  • Plug the opposite side of your CAT-5 Ethernet cable into the input on your computer. Your CAT-5 cable is now installed on your modem is connected to your computer.
