LEED buildings meet the standards of the U.S. Green Building Council.

The U.S. Green Building Council in Washington D.C. is a non-profit organization that works to build and develop green designs. The Green Building Council strives to promote environmentally friendly products. LEED is a certification offered by the U.S Green Building Council and stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. LEED certification means that your project used only green products. Registering to get your LEED certification can take place through the U.S. Green Building Council.

Instructions

      Pay the registration fee for your LEED certification. As of 2010, the U.S. Green Building Council lists registration fees beginning at $900.

      Choose the certification category that you want to be certified in. The categories include new construction, schools and neighborhood development.

      Contact the U.S. Green Building Council online or in Washington D.C. Fill out the necessary paperwork to be considered a LEED project. Submit the application.

      Wait for your application to be reviewed. If it passes you will need to pay a certification fee, which varies greatly depending on the size of the building you want to register.

  • If you live in another country, building councils also exist in Canada, India and Cuba.
