How to Install a Vonage Phone


Vonage is a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service that provides home phone service. The company utilizes a home's existing Internet connection to provide the phone service. After subscribing to the service, you are provided with an installation kit to set up the Vonage equipment. Vonage customers can set up the equipment without the help of a technician.

  • Unplug the cable or DSL modem's power cord from the electrical outlet.

  • Unplug the Ethernet cable connecting the computer to the modem and plug it into the "Yellow" port on the back of the Vonage phone adapter.

  • Plug one end of the blue Ethernet Vonage cable into the "Blue" port of the Vonage adapter. Plug the other end into the Ethernet port on the cable or DSL modem.

  • Plug in the modem's power adapter into an electrical outlet. Wait for the modem to fully power on and connect.

  • Plug in the Vonage phone adapter's power cord to the back of the adapter. Plug in the power cord to an electrical outlet. Wait until you see a "Phone" icon on the adapter's LCD screen.

  • Plug a telephone cord into the first "Green" phone port of the Vonage phone adapter.

  • Pick up the phone's handset and listen for a dial tone. The Vonage service is now active. If there is no dial tone, check the connections to make sure all are plugged in firmly.
