The IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad T61 is a business-class notebook computer. In addition to optional features like extra RAM or hard-drive space, an upgraded keyboard and a directional nub, the T61 features a biometric thumbprint reader on some models. This allows you to log in with a simple slide of your finger, adding extra security to your computer's capabilities. If you reinstall Windows or your thumbprint reader's driver malfunctions, you can reinstall the driver to get it working again.
Turn on your computer and log in. Start your preferred Internet browser and navigate to the Lenovo T61 support page (see the Resources section for the link.)
Click the "ThinkVantage Fingerprint software" download for your version of Windows. You must choose between 32- and 64-bit versions for both Windows Vista and 7. Check the Computer Properties window on your computer for processor and software versions if you're confused. Save the file to your computer desktop.
Double click the MSI file on your computer desktop. Follow the instructions to install or reinstall the thumbprint driver, pressing "OK" or "Next" as appropriate.
Restart the computer when the installation finishes. Your thumbprint reader is now functional.
Tips & Warnings
- Not every Thinkpad T61 features a thumbprint reader. Installing thumbprint-reader hardware and software on a laptop that does not include one is not supported by Lenovo.
