How to Use Oversized Silk Scarfs thumbnail
A scarf can transform to many purposes.

An oversized scarf is ideal for a variety of looks ranging from unique and trendy ways to wear it around your neck to creative and interesting ways to adapt it into completely different apparel pieces. The fact that the scarf is larger gives you more material to work with to create more interesting formations and knots. A silk scarf creates an elegant sleekness you won't find with a bulky, textured wool scarf. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Tunic

    • 1

Drape the scarf over the back of your neck so it cascades down the front of you. Wear a plain colored shirt or blouse under it.

    • 2

Spread out the scarf so it is not folded and the fabric on each side covers your chest evenly.

    • 3

Wrap a belt, ideally a wide belt, over your clothes and the scarf. Fasten in place so the scarf now resembles a tunic over the shirt underneath.

    Coiled Wrap

    • 4

Hang the scarf over the back of your neck so it falls to the front evenly on both sides.

    • 5

Wrap the right side across your neck, over the left shoulder, behind your neck and over the right shoulder.

    • 6

Wrap the left hanging side of the scarf over your right shoulder, behind your neck and over the left shoulder.

    Evening Glam

    • 7

Hang the scarf over the back of your neck so it drapes evenly on both sides in the front.

    • 8

Cross the right side of the hanging scarf over the left shoulder so the end cascades down the back of your left shoulder.

    • 9

Locate the part of the scarf that is hanging on your left side. Pull this side of the scarf where it is touching the back of your neck, and raise it an inch or two off your neck.

    • 10

Grab the loose scarf hanging down the left side of your back between the loop created from pulling the scarf off your neck.

    • 11

Pull the loop to tie a knot. The pulled section of the scarf will look like one side of a bow next to your ear.

    Other Styles

    • 12

Drape the scarf around your back and shoulders as a shawl for an evening look.

    • 13

Wrap the scarf over your head, above your forehead, and tie at the nape of your neck underneath your hair as a stylish and striking headband.

    • 14

Open the scarf and wrap it around your waist and hips, tying it either in the front or the side for a simple and chic skirt or bathing suit wrap.
