Mark each side of the piece so you can clearly see the delineations.

Turn one of the edges of the piece so it is facing up. Secure it in the clamp of the end mill table. This position allows you to mill horizontally along the piece.

Lower the mill into position right above the piece. Move the clamped item back and forth below the end mill to make a long hole into the sides of the piece.

Switch the piece into position so the top or bottom is facing up. This is the position you should use for milling straight down into the piece.

Check the length of the end mill and make sure it is the correct size for the job. Use the shortest mill that suits your needs for the best result.

Lower the mill into position above the piece. Bring the mill down through the metal until the bit comes through the other side to complete the hole.
