One of the most important steps when painting your home is to remove the furniture or cover it completely with dropcloths so it doesn't get dripped with paint. Despite your diligence, however, wet paint may still find its way to your furniture. Removing it from couch fabric can be tricky, especially if the paint has been on it for a long time. Always try to clean the area as soon as you notice the stain. Be careful not to scrub beyond the stain's borders or you risk spreading it and making it more noticeable.
Things You'll Need
- Mild liquid dish soap
- Plastic spoon
- Hair spray
- Paper towels
Mix 1 cup of warm water with ¼ tsp. of mild liquid dish soap. Do not use dish soap containing bleach.
Soak a cloth in the soapy solution and rub it over the paint stain until completely soaked.
Brush the stain with a toothbrush to try to scrape away some of the paint.
Scrape the paint away with the back of a plastic spoon. Do not use sharp tools to scrape it as they could easily put a hole through the fabric couch.
Spray hair spray onto any areas where you were unable to remove the paint completely. Let the hair spray soak into the couch fabric.
Gently scrub away the paint with a toothbrush. Scrape it with the back of a plastic spoon.
Rinse the area thoroughly by rubbing a cloth soaked in clear water over the formerly stained area.
Dry the area thoroughly with paper towels.
