How to Make Macrame Holders
Macrame is an art that has recently begun to regain popularity. A crafting activity that can be enjoyed by people of all age groups, it involves tying knots to create various works of art. An excellent macrame starter project involves creating a holder for plants and the like. The result will be a beautiful piece to hang around the house, or give as a gift, and impress friends with.

1
Choose a heavy duty macrame cord, in a color that coincides well with the decor of your home, or the home of the intended recipient.
-
2
Cut the macrame cord into six long pieces, each section five times as long as you want the holder to be. If you would like the holder to hang down one foot, use five feet of cord for each strand.
-
-
3
Fold each piece of cord in half, creating 12 strands. Slip a large metal ring over the fold, and tie the cords together under it.
-
4
Divide the cords into three groups of four. Then pin one group to a knotting board, a sturdy board for knot and craft display, available at most craft stores. Tie square knots into each cord below the first knot. Make them loose enough that the design remains visible. Make three new groups of four cords from the remaining groups. Tie three more knots into each of the new groups.
-
5
Pin all knots to the board, side by side. Tie one last square knot. Use an overhand style knot to tie all cords together at the ends. Place your flower pot or other object inside the completed macrame holder.
