How to Remove a Yamaha YFZ450 Clutch Lever

Clutch levers are one of the parts most commonly bent or broken on an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) like the Yamaha YFZ450. The clutch levers also just wear out after extended use. Whether you need to replace your clutch lever or simply adjust it, knowing how to remove the clutch lever of your YFZ450 is important for regular maintenance and repair. The job requires only basic tools and five to 10 minutes of your time.

Things You'll Need

• 10-mm socket wrench
• 10-mm open-end wrench

Instructions

1. Remove the rubber cover on the joint of the lever by simply pulling it back. The cover will fold over itself.

2. Place a 12-mm socket wrench on the joint bolt on top of the lever assembly.

3. Place a 12-mm open-end wrench on the nut beneath the lever assembly. Twist the wrench counterclockwise to remove the nut.

4. Pull the bolt through the assembly and remove it.

5. Slide the clutch lever out of the joint assembly.

6. Remove the clutch cable from the lever by pulling its end knob out of the mounting hole in the lever.

• If you are planning to replace your lever, don't be afraid to spend a few extra dollars for a high-quality alloy lever.
