Fill in French Nail Tips

French nail tips are a style of manicure in which the nails are painted white at the tip while the rest of the nail is painted a clear pink color. The tips of the nails are usually squared off instead of oval shaped, making the white tip look more pronounced. Although a French manicure is usually done in a salon, if you have the right materials, you can do your own French tips at home. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the tip of your nail so that it looks like a squared oval. Even up the edges of your nails by using a nail file. Rub the file across the nail in one direction only so that your nails will not be damaged.

    • 2

Apply one layer of base coat to your nails so that they will be protected from the nail polish. There are nail polish products that can stain the nails, and if you don't use a base coat your nails will have a yellowish tinge once you remove the polish.

    • 3

Attach the nail guide strip to your nails. Since it is already shaped like a nail you can follow the curvature of the strip in order to attach it evenly. The guide strip will allow you to paint the tip of your nails with ease, as it will cover most of the nail, exposing only the tip that is to be painted.

    • 4

Paint the tip of the nail with white nail polish. When applying a nail polish, use only one stroke and avoid repeating the strokes so that it will not go on too thick. Wait for it to dry.

    • 5

Remove the guide strip once the white polish has already dried. Apply the neutral nail polish on the nails up to the white tips. It is best to apply two coats of neutral nail polish so that it will even up the polish coats. Wait for it to dry. To see if the polish has dried, touch a coated nail using the tip of another finger. If it feels sticky that means the polish is still wet. If it is smooth that means the polish is dry.

Apply a top coat. The top coat is optional, but if you want to prolong the life of your manicure, it will keep the polish from chipping right away. Wait for it to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not blow on your nails or put them in front of an electric fan to dry. It will only result in bubbles in your nail polish.
