Instructions

    • 1

Add the carrier oil and vegetable butter to one of the dishes. These ingredients vary in color, texture and scent and can be found in craft or hobby supply shops with the rest of the ingredients needed in this recipe.

    • 2

Add the stearic acid to a separate glass bowl. Microwave both bowls on high for two minutes, or until the contents of each bowl are melted into liquid.

    • 3

Combine the two bowls by drizzling the melted stearic acid into the bowl containing the carrier oil and vegetable butter. Stir it with the disposable stirrer as you do so. This turns the mixture into a somewhat thick, salve-like lotion.

    • 4

Administer the essential oil to the salve lotion. Stir thoroughly with the stirrer to get the essential oils dispersed throughout the lotion. Essential oil choices include lavender, mint or eucalyptus, for a tingling sensation while using the massage lotion.

    • 5

Pour the melted, fragrant salve into the 4-oz. bottle. Leave the cap off until the lotion cools to room temperature -- about five minutes.

Tips & Warnings

  • Use different carrier oils for different effects. For example, coconut oil, grapeseed oil and pecan kernel oil are fast-drying and absorbent oils. Heavy oils that leave a slick film include hempseed oil, palm kernel oil and apricot kernel oil.
