Coffee Percolator Instructions
It was a staple in many American kitchens in the 1950s and 60s and it's still popular in some homes today. Percolator coffee pots create a hotter and stronger brew than modern drip pots. Using a coffee percolator is no more complicated than using more common coffee makers, and you can use the same coffee grounds in them as well. Fill up the pot, pour in the grounds and you'll soon have coffee just like your grandmother used to make. Does this Spark an idea?

1
Remove the basket and stem from inside the percolator by pulling up on the stem. Set the basket and stem aside.
-
2
Pour in the required amount of water for your desired number of cups of coffee. Most percolators have indicator lines inside the pot to show how much water to use for various cup amounts. Use filtered water or bottled water, but never distilled water.

3
Place the stem and basket back into the pot, with the bottom of the stem securely centered in the indentation at the bottom of the pot.
-
4
Remove the basket lid and set it aside. Spoon the correct amount of coffee grounds into the basket. Use 1 to 2 tbs. of grounds for every cup of coffee desired.
-
5
Replace the lid to the coffee basket, then place the percolator lid on securely. Plug the cord into the percolator, then plug it into the wall. Your coffee will begin to perk and will finish when the coffee is the correct strength.

Tips & Warnings
If your percolator is a stovetop model, place it on the burner and turn on the heat instead of plugging it into the wall. Watch the color of the perking coffee in the glass lid top to determine when the coffee is done.
