How to Repair a Moen Brand Single-Handle Faucet

The Moen line of single-handle faucets is used in showers and tubs. These faucets have an inner cartridge with valves to moderate water flow and temperature. If these faucets leak or start to perform under par, replacing the cartridge is your best option. This replaces the inner valves which when worn down, cause leaks and sub par performance. It's a job that requires no special knowledge or skill, just about 20 minutes of your time. Does this Spark an idea?

Take off the cap on the handle and unscrew the screw beneath it. Pull off the handle to expose the cartridge stem underneath. You will see a small retaining clip around the cartridge on the faucet fixture head.

    • 3

Pry out the retaining clip with pliers. Pull out the cartridge by grasping it with the pliers and pulling backwards. It will slide out.

Insert the new cartridge into the faucet head and replace the retaining clip by pushing it into place around the faucet head.

Slide the handle back onto the stem of the cartridge. Adjust it so it faces the proper way with hot and cold markings on the right sides. Insert and tighten the set screw and replace the cap.
